The Band of Gypsies Groove

Someone just reminded me about the passing of drummer Buddy Miles, on 2/26/08.

This video of "Who Knows" from the classic Filmore East performance in '69, provides a perfect example of the space and groove Buddy Miles provided for Hendrix. Although Mitch Mitchell was an incredibly more exciting drummer, the live stuff with Mitchell didn't seem to coax Hendrix to stretch out and flow in the same way.

Buddy Miles was part of a major historical event which I hope serves him well on down the track.

Whatever "them changes" may be.

Buddy definitely had his own groove. I really liked his stuff with Electric Flag. Pretty good guitar player in that band too.
